Brokeback Mountain’ To Become An Opera

The New York City Opera has commissioned an opera based on Annie Proulx’s 1997 short story ‘Brokeback Mountain’. The 2005 Oscar-winning movie starred Jake Gyllenhaal and the late Heath Ledger. The opera will premiere in 2013, and is being composed by Charles Wuorinen.
“Ever since encountering Annie Proulx’s extraordinary story I have wanted to make an opera on it, and it gives me great joy that Gerard Mortier and New York City Opera have given me the opportunity to do so,” Wuorinen said in a statement.
The New York City 오페라단이 1997년작 Annie Proulx의 단편소설이자 2005년 제이크 질렌할과 히쓰 레저가 출연 오스카상을 수상한 영화인 브로크벡 마운틴을 기본으로 오페라를 구상중이라고 한다. 오페라는 Charles Wuorinen 작곡으로 2013년경 초연될 예정이다
Wuorinen의 말에 따르면 자신은 Annie Proulx의 이 비범한 스토리를 만난 이후 줄곧 이것을 바탕으로 오페라를 만들기를 원했다고 한다.
또한 Gerard Mortier와 뉴욕 시티 오페라단이 자신에게 그 기회를 준것이 자신에게는 대단한 기쁨이라고
